Sage expands AI tools with AWS to boost SMB financial accuracy

Today

Sage has reported advancements in its collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to support the accounting and compliance needs of small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) through the development and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.

As part of the ongoing partnership, Sage is utilising AWS AI services including Amazon Bedrock, as well as specialised AI chips such as AWS Trainium and AWS Inferentia, to speed up the creation and implementation of AI-powered financial tools. The company indicated that this access to AWS technology allows Sage to quickly test, refine, and launch AI models specifically tailored for accounting and regulatory compliance.

The past year's collaboration has seen Sage successfully develop and use both Large Language Models (LLMs) and Small Language Models (SLMs), designed to increase the accuracy and dependability of its financial solutions for SMBs. These AI models support the wider features of Sage Copilot, an AI-based assistant integrated into products like Sage Accounting, Sage for Accountants, Sage 50, and Sage Intacct, which are available in the UK, US, France, Spain, and Germany.

Among the recent technological updates, Sage has introduced the Accounting Filtering Model to maintain the relevance of AI-generated answers, ensuring that responses focus strictly on financial and compliance-related queries. This model is intended to reduce the risk of distributing incorrect or inappropriate information.

The collaboration has also enabled the expansion of AI-driven assistance throughout Sage Copilot, allowing it to offer real-time financial insights, automate various workflows, and help to decrease the time spent on manual accounting tasks. Sage has also developed new endpoint detection models, which improve the AI's ability to determine user intent and retrieve data accordingly, providing more accurate information and facilitating more efficient business decisions.

Amaya Souarez, Executive Vice President of Cloud Services & Operations at Sage, stated, "Our collaboration with AWS enables us to develop and scale AI solutions that directly address the challenges SMBs face. By combining Sage's deep accounting expertise with the powerful AI infrastructure of AWS, we are creating technology that is not just intelligent, but also trusted and practical for finance. These advancements make financial decision-making smarter, more intuitive, and more efficient, helping SMBs reduce time spent on financial admin, gain greater visibility into their finances, and focus on growing their business."

Sage is now leveraging AWS technology to further transform SMBs' access to and use of financial information through the Semantic Search API. Powered by Amazon Bedrock, this tool refines how Sage products gather, rank, and present information from financial and regulatory records, with the goal of making insights simpler to access and apply in business contexts.

New AI-powered search features have been designed to reduce the time spent navigating financial data, which the company says will help SMEs improve both productivity and decision-making. A self-service content hub for Sage's product teams is also being introduced, so that information sources are continually updated to reflect current financial regulations and industry developments, thereby improving the relevance of AI responses.

Sage is extending the reach of its semantic search technology by supporting multiple languages, aiming to offer these AI-driven solutions to a broader global base of small and mid-sized businesses.

The company has said that it is continuing to invest in responsible AI development, prioritising transparency, security, and the particular requirements of SMBs as core principles in its ongoing product evolution.
